Our family of readers has several of these, and we all absolutely love them except for one issue: if the set of batteries is anything but fully charged, it takes a long time (seconds, and sometimes minutes) for the light to turn on. Once it’s on, the light is great.

We discovered a solution, which is to hold the unlit light up to another light — the unlit light will instantly turn on. My wife and I will often “give each other a light” at night in bed when we’re reading. Her light will be on, I’ll click mine on, but instead of waiting for it to turn on I’ll hold my light up to hers (or to another light source) and my light will instantly turn on. It works for us every time.
